Applying for permits
To get a Development or Building permit, you need to complete the proper application forms. You can also apply for many permits through ePermits.
Working with a builder
We recommend that your builder apply for the development and building permits, and the specific trades apply for the plumbing, private sewage disposal, gas and electrical permits.
Doing the work yourself
Development and Building
If you act as your own general contractor, then you could apply for the development and building permits.
Trade permits
- plumbing
- private sewage disposal

- electrical
There are some projects you are not allowed to do as a homeowner. If you need more specific information, please contact us.

Inspections
The following permits all require at least one inspection:
- building permits
- deck permits
- electrical permits
- gas permits
- plumbing permits
- private sewage permits
The building code analysis you receive along with your building or deck permit will let you know when you must have your inspection(s) done.
Booking an inspection
Most inspection requests that are received by 3 p.m. will be scheduled for the next business day. Requests received after 3 p.m. will be scheduled for a date within the next two business days. All inspection requests are time-stamped.
You can request an inspection by phone or online. After the booking is made, it is your responsibility to confirm it.
To request an inspection or confirm your booking:
- Call 780-464-8080
- use ePermits
The day of your inspection
Inspectors will be on-site between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the inspection date. You cannot ask for a specific time unless you have applied online.
If you have concerns about the timeframe of your scheduled inspection, call 780-464-8080 between 8:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on the inspection date.
Please ensure there is someone on-site when the inspector arrives. If a representative is not present and the inspection needs to be rescheduled, re-inspection fees may apply.
